Chay Ly Chhen's Obituary
Chay Ly Chhen was born on October 30, 1946, in Phnom Penh, Cambodia to Dang Chu Sien and Lim Muai. He was 77 years old when he suddenly passed away on Thursday, December 28, 2023, in San Jose, CA.
In 1970, his aunt played matchmaker, uniting him with Chea Ly "Julie" Chhen. They started a residential construction business but had to flee the war in Cambodia, seeking refuge in Thailand. Eventually, they immigrated to Minnesota before finally settling in California in 1980.
Together, they welcomed three precious souls - a daughter, Megan, and two sons, Darrat and Sonny. Despite the challenges of the Cambodian Civil War, which sadly claimed Darrat's life, the enduring love they shared remains a heartwarming part of their collective tale.
In 1987, a new chapter unfolded as he proudly assumed ownership of his donut shop, bringing sweetness to the community until his retirement. Beyond his professional pursuits, his heart radiated familial warmth, leaving behind a legacy of patience, understanding, wisdom, and a subtle heartwarming sense of humor.
Today, Chay rests in the tranquility of a reunion with his departed parents, siblings, and Darrat. He is survived by his wife, two children, and three grandchildren: Brennan, Emily, and Jacob.
As we navigate the delicate threads between worlds, let us fondly remember the profound composition of his life—a tune of love and laughter that continues to resonate in the everyday moments we hold dear.
A funeral will be held on Sunday, January 7, 2024, at Skylawn Memorial Park.
