Charles William Hildebrandt's Obituary
Charles Hildebrandt beloved husband, father, grandfather, great grandfather and friend passed away at 93, on October 24, 2025. Charlie was born in Jamaica, NY in 1932. His formative years began with Catholic school and a tough upbringing. He was shepherded by his beloved great aunt, Helen. After graduating Jamaica High School, he was reacquainted with and married fellow Jamaica High School alum Joyce, who became his rock and love of his life. He served briefly in the US Army, an accident ending his service time, and promising baseball career. While working at Macy's, he graduated with a bachelor's degree in economics from Hofstra University, in Long Island, NY, and now the father to two daughters.
His successful career as a sales Consultant began with a relocation to Sunny California in 1964. Charlie and Joyce loved California and took the family on many trips to see the sites there and also Hawaii, which was part of his sales territory. He found his real niche in selling Architectural Design of Industrial Buildings, primarily banks and savings and loans. Of his successful 42 years career, he had many loyal customers that became his friends. His last 17 years, he established his own successful firm, with his office located on 25th Avenue.
Charlie was a diehard Dodgers fan, beginning in Brooklyn and continuing to Los Angeles. He never missed watching a game. He also cheered on his San Francisco 49ers and the Notre Dame football team. If the game was on, you'd know he'd be watching. Through the years, Charlie, played on recreational competitive softball and baseball teams winning many tournaments all over the world.
He passed onto his daughters and grandchildren the love of learning, music, gardening, travel and sports. He sailed the sea on cruises and saw many foreign ports around the world, especially loving England, Australia and Japan.
He so greatly missed his dear wife of 24 years, Joyce, who passed too early from cancer.
Thankfully, they are now happily reunited once again. He lived and loved San Mateo for 56 years. Charles was preceded in death by his wife Joyce, his brother Philip, half-brothers William, George and Jerry, and a grandson, Nicholas. He is survived by his daughters, Mary (Howard), Alice (Bill), 5 grandchildren and 7 great grandchildren. A funeral mass will be held at 10am on Monday, November 3, 2025, at St. Bartholomew's Catholic Church in San Mateo. Arrangements by Skylawn Mortuary and Cemetery.
