Cesar Ortiz's Obituary
Cesar Ortiz, M.D. left us peacefully at age 91 on January 21, 2018 at San Ramon Regional Medical Center.He was born on Oct 2, 1926 in Gerona, Tarlac, Philippines to Buenaventura Ortiz and Carolina Simeon. He was married to his childhood sweetheart, Loreto Callao from 1958 to 1992. After the lovely Loreto passed away in 1992, Cesar met and married another beautiful lady, Alsaida de Leon. Cesar and Alsaida were married for 24 memorable and loving years.Cesar finished medicine from the College of Medicine, Manila Central University, in the Philippines. He migrated to San Francisco in 1956 and completed his residency training from Seton Medical Center in Daly City (formerly Mary’s Help Hospital) and St. Luke’s Hospital in San Francisco. He practiced Family Medicine and Surgery for 65+ years in San Francisco and Daly City.He was President of the Philippine Medical Society of Northern California in 1992, a past President of the Filipino Professional Businessman’s Association, and an Advisor to the Geronian of Northern California organization. He was a choir member of the Temple United Methodist Church in San Francisco.Cesar was a gentle, loving, mild-mannered, and generous husband, father, grandfather, great-grandfather, brother, friend and healer. He was well-loved by his patients and well-respected by his colleagues. He was called “Uncle” by many and fondly known as “Papa Doc” by his extended family. He shared his love of travel with his wife, Alsaida, with trips to places in Europe, Asia and their home country, the Philippines. He carefully organized pictures taken from their trips in many different photo albums. He also enjoyed listening to classical and 1950’s/1960’s music.Cesar was active in the Philippine Medical Association of Northern California where he led many medical missions to impoverished and rural provinces in the Philippines. He received several business and community recognitions for his medical work, including 50+ years of service with Seton Medical Center and for his participation in the opening of the Bataan Memorial Medical Building to serve the health needs of San Franciscans in the Mission District.Cesar is survived by his wife, Alsaida, children John and Michael, step-children and spouses: Amelia, Virgilio and Christel, Victoria and Aris, Dennis and Liza, Maria, Antonio and Joy, Susan and Richard; 16 grandchildren and 7 great-grandchildren; siblings and spouses: Nymfa Paraso, Erlin and Juvenal Castro, Dr. Romeo and Marylin Ortiz, Eddie and Gigi OrtizHe was predeceased by his first wife, Loreto, stepson Rosalio, and siblings: Noemi Paraso, Amor Paraso, Lydia Salva, Lilia CarijutanCesar – heaven just gained another choir member. You will be deeply missed by your family, relatives and friends. We love you!Viewing and Memorial services will be on Friday, Jan. 26, 2018 at 4pm – Skylawn Funeral Home in San Mateo, CA. The Funeral service will be Saturday, Jan. 27, 2018 10am – Skylawn Memorial Park, San Mateo, CA.
