Catie Cahill Stamm's Obituary
Catie Cahill Stamm danced off to heaven on the evening of March 5 to the sounds of her favorite Sinatra songs. Her devoted husband Glen and her sister Carol were by her side along with her beloved dog Charlie. She was welcomed into the gates of heaven by her late parents, Thomas and Mary Cahill of Hillsborough. She was the cherished baby sister to three sisters and three brothers, Mary Ann Munson (Tom) of Alexandria, VA, Carol Cahill Grady (Steve) of San Jose, Tom Cahill (Gloria) of San Jose, Michael Cahill of Covina, Jim Cahill (Celia) of Sacramento, and Trish Abramo (John) of Manalapan, NJ. She finally became a 'big' sister when the youngest member of the family, Sean Cahill (Jennifer) of Imperial Beach was born in 1973.Catherine Barbara Cahill was born on January 25, 1964 in Macon, GA, moving to Birmingham, MI at the age of two, Andover, MA at three, and Atlanta GA at the age of six. In November of 1974 the family moved to Hillsborough, CA. Catie attended South School and Crocker Middle School in Hillsborough. She also attended Mercy High School in Burlingame and graduated from Aragon High School in San Mateo. She was bright, beautiful, charming and stubborn. She did not want to be called 'aunt' as she was 11 years older than her first niece so she became 'just Catie' to her fifteen nieces and three nephews. Catie was godmother to her niece Megan Grady and her nephew Nicholas Abramo. She held a much-storied 'cousins' weekend for her California nieces when she lived in Fresno. To this day, the parents don't know all that went on that weekend.Catie worked in the hospitality industry and then in hotel management. She especially loved working at the Courtyard by Marriot on Shaw Avenue in Fresno. She worked at B&B's in Morro Bay and San Luis Obispo before moving to Union City when she and Glen married. She had an adventurous spirit and loved to discover new restaurants, wines and experiences. In a trip to the Napa Valley with Mary Ann and Carol, Catie had to sit on someone's lap in order to fit all of the wine in the car. That day ended with a marvelous dinner at Brix. Her powers of persuasion were most evident when she convinced Glen (not fond of heights) to zipline in Las Vegas. She was a whiz at Wii Bowling with an approach that included a pirouette and almost always resulted in a strike.Catie's life with Glen was enhanced by her loving relationship with his parents, Heinz and Hilda Stamm and his sister Susan Murray and her husband Tim. The love and friendship of Carl and Laurenne Doughty brought her immense joy. Catie, Glen, Carl and Laurenne were able to enjoy one last beach weekend together in February. A small surprise party was given in January for Catie's birthday. She received the best present ever when she saw her sister Trish who had flown in that morning from New Jersey. They were close in the way that only sisters who shared a bedroom for most of the lives can be. In the past month she received visits from family and friends and kept in touch with her extended family and friends by text messages and phone calls. If you catch a glimpse of a black Corvette convertible with a beautiful blond at the wheel, there one moment and gone the next or find a dollar bill in an unexpected place such as your washing machine or on the floor of Starbucks you are very fortunate – Catie stopped by to say hi. The family thanks all the professionals involved in Catie's care with special thanks to Maureen B. from hospice. A celebration of Catie's life will begin on Friday, March 15 at 11:30 at Serenity Circle in Skylawn Memorial Park. Skylawn is located at the intersection of Highways 92 and 35 West of 280.
