Mrs. Caroline "Duckie" Russell Marold's Obituary
Caroline “Duckie” Russell Marold passed away on August 14 at the age of 73. Duckie was born in Tennessee to Alvin Russell and Frances Mullican Russell. She attended Peabody Demonstration School in Nashville for high school, and was a graduate of The University of North Carolina at Greensboro.
Duckie met her husband, John, during college, and they recently celebrated their 50th wedding anniversary. She lived in Burlington, Massachusetts for most of her adult life, but came to California 15 years ago to be closer to family and escape the snow and ice that she did not love. She wore many hats through the years including business owner, graphic designer, author, and jack of all trades for fabric, needlepoint, and dance shops.
Her most important roles were that of wife, mother, and grandmother. She is survived by her husband of 50 years, John, daughter Jennifer, son-in-law Jeff, grandsons Noah and Aaron, and her kitties, Gavin and Gigi. She also is survived by a sewing room full of fabric.
Duckie loved her grandkids and counted the moments to give them hugs after getting her vaccine. She recently finished the needlepoint Christmas stockings for the boys that she had been working on for what seemed like forever and was so proud to show off the finished
products. Duckie loved to share stories and laugh. It was something she did every week with her friends in her online stitch groups. She also wasn’t afraid to share her opinion. Beyond needlepoint, she was a seamstress and could always fix, alter, create, and sew what you
needed. In addition to stitching, she enjoyed online games and had a social group that extended to a wide range of online gamers.
Duckie’s real passion was ballroom dancing. Her love of ballroom began in the 1980s with local rec department classes. She eventually walked into the Arthur Murray Dance studio and has been dancing ever since. Beyond the dancing awards, the social aspect always kept her happy. Her review of the local Arthur Murray best sums up her feelings about life, “Laughing and dancing. What could be better?”
Duckie’s thoughtfulness and sense of humor will be greatly missed. In lieu of flowers, please send donations to the American Red Cross.
