Caroline Chen's Obituary
Caroline M. Chen passed away peacefully in her home in Fremont, California on November 20th, 2019, with her family by her side. Caroline was born on May 3th, 1931 in Kunming, Yunnan Province, China, the youngest child to two brothers and two sisters. She moved to Shanghai as a child and remained there until her teen years. As a consequence of the Chinese Civil War, she relocated to Hong Kong with her family as a young woman, and then subsequently to Taiwan. While living in Taiwan, she met a handsome young air force officer and pilot, Larry Yen-Tung Chen. Not long after they were acquainted, they fell in love and were married. Their marriage lasted for 26 years, until the untimely death of her beloved husband in 1979. Caroline moved to California in 1978, bringing her three sons to live with her in 1981 and 1982. She lived in California the rest of her life, and never married again. Caroline is remembered a strong and independent woman, as well as a caring and loving mother. With her husband often away from home on military bases, she raised her three sons almost entirely on her own. One of her legacies was to teach her sons also to be strong and independent people. All three achieved happy lives and careers during her lifetime and survive her in the United States with her two grandchildren. Her job here is done. She rests in peace and is reunited with her husband and her beloved siblings.
