Celebrating The Life Of Brigida Recano AbuyenBorn on March 5, 1919 In Balanga, Bataan where she lived until she came to the US int the early 1950’s. Her parents were Jose Recano and Maria Lacson. She was the 3rd of 6 children. She graduated from Bataan High School in 1938. On December 7, 1941 Pearl Harbor was bombed and one month later was the invasion of the Philippines.On April 9, 1942 was The Bataan death march, which she and her family survived. After the war she opened The Negros Beauty Institute and was the Director until she moved to the US with her husband.She has lived in San Francisco and Daly City. She was married to Ernesto Abuyen on August 24, 1947 in a roman catholic church in the Philippines.After moving to the US she worked as a hairdresser and then opened 3 salons and a Filipino handicraft gift shop with her sister who was the exporter.After retiring she became involved with an American Filipino senior citizen association where she served an 8 year term. She received numerous awards for her community service.She was a generous, loyal, independent, caring person with a wicked sense of humor. She also enjoyed listening to Filipino love songs.
