Bobbie Jean Armstrong's Obituary
Bobbie Jean Armstrong was born and raised in Alabama, where she attended elementary through high school. She went on to get her college degree and teaching credentials. After moving to California Bobbie started teaching in Oakland. She taught at all grade levels but always said she loved teaching the elementary kids the most. Bobbie retired after more than 35 years of teaching. At her retirement party many of her students came to see her, with their children whom “Ms. Armstrong” had also taught. They expressed their love for her no nonsense approach and for the love she shared with them.In 1975 Bobbie met Ivan D. Armstrong Sr. (Chief), while on a gambling trip in Reno. She said she tried to ignore him but he was persistent. They married in 1977 and were married 24 years at the time of his passing. They loved life as much as each other. They often took trips to Reno since they both loved to gamble. Bobbie hit the jackpot one year and bought herself a full-length black mink coat. Living in California didn’t stop her from wearing it, even in the house!Bobbie became an instant mom when she married Ivan. She said she loved being a mom especially since she didn’t have to go through the “delivery part”. She loved and supported each of her children and was always there, and even when they didn’t know, she was pulling the strings.Bobbie was infamous for her stories. We never knew if she really experienced those crazy things or if she was making things up. In any case she was very entertaining. She loved spending time with the grandkids. She and Ivan would keep them as often as possible, and as many of them as possible, on weekends and during the summer. She was happiest when surrounded by her kids and grandkids.Bobbie is survived by her children, Ivan D. Armstrong Jr., Nancy Polani (David), Randall Armstrong (Arlene) and Star Armstrong; Grandchildren: Jason Armstrong, Justin Armstrong, Jarrett Armstrong, John Q Hoover Jr. (Rachael), Danielle Polani, Tyler Polani and Randi Armstrong; Great-Grandchildren: Soulea Gray, Ryder Gray, Bauer Gray, Journee Gray, Kale Victoria, Quincy Hoover and Landon Hoover; and a host of loving family and lifelong friends.
