Bernard "Bernie" Skomra's Obituary
Bernie Skomra of San Francisco passed away on December 31, 2010 in New York City. Bernie was 49 years old. Bernie was born in Cleveland, Ohio to the parents of Bernard and Irene Skomra. Bernie attended Ohio State University, where he completed a Bachelor of Science degree in Electrical Engineering. Bernie started his career at IBM and General Electric and worked for Oracle Corporation for nine years, where he was named the world wide highest performing sales manager.. Bernie spent four years with Portal Software as VP of North American Field Operations before the company went public. Bernie was the CEO/President and the Founder of Apacheta Corporation where he developed a new generation of mobile supply chain automation solutions. For the last three years, Bernie retuned to enterprise software, becoming the Senior Vice President of worldwide Field Operations for Big Fix, where he delivered sales growth quarter after quarter. His most recent position was with the Actuate Corporation, where he served as the Senior Vice President of Global Operations. Bernie is survived by his wife, Zahra Maher, and his two young children, as well as his parents, Bernard and Irene, and his siblings Charlene, Stewart, Michelle, and Eric. While Bernie built a very successful professional career, nothing was more important to him than his family and friends. His love for his wife, children and family was an inspiration to all. Friends are invited to attend a viewing from 4 – 8pm on Monday, January 10th with a rosary service at 6:00pm at the Lifemark Center at Skylawn Memorial Park, Highway 92 at Skyline Boulevard, P.O. Box 5070, San Mateo, CA 94402. A funeral mass will be held on Tuesday, January 11th at 1:30pm at St. Dominic’s Catholic Church, San Francisco, 2390 Bush Street, San Francisco, CA 94115. In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations be made to the UCSF Helen Diller Family Comprehensive Cancer Center in the name of Bernie.
