Arlene May Billy's Obituary
Arlene May Billy, wife of Stephen E. Billy, departed this earth on December 6, 2023 and the world lost of the the kindest and generous humans. Arlene was born on May 29, 1940 in New Britain,CT to Walter May and Anna Henrickson. She was a grocery store kid working in her family’s store. Following graduation from NBHS and UCONN, Arlene worked in social work, which she continued after moving to San Francisco in 1963, driving her VW bug across the country. She took computer programming courses at night after moving to Sunnyvale, finally working at Stanford University for many years. She married the love of her life, Steve, at Venice Beach in Half Moon Bay in 1974 and lived in Menlo Park for 22 years. After retiring, she and Steve, a retired chef, moved to their beloved Half Moon Bay. Arlene never forgot her family and friends back East or a friend she made throughout the years. Arlene enjoyed taking and sharing pictures, camping, entertaining friends, eating good food & desserts, traveling with Steve as her constant companion. Long walks on the beach, dogs and anything chocolate being a close second. When faced with death she chose to focus and all life had provided, with gratitude. Arlene passed peacefully with dignity and grace. Arlene leaves behind her husband of 51 years Stephen E. Billy, brother Walter May, sister-in-law Marion Billy, her nieces and nephew and their families, Belinda May, Walter May Jr and Sally Eigenraam, along with countless friends and neighbors, including Joanie and Carla who assisted Arlene in her final days. Arlene was pre-deceased by her sister Carol Eigenraam and brother Robert May.
A Celebration of Life will be held in honor of Arlene later in the Spring. In lieu of flowers, her favorite charities were The World Central Kitchen, the Humane Society and John Stewart’s Sanctuary.
