Anthony C. Hoffman's Obituary
Anthony C. Hoffman April 14, 1923 – March 28, 2000 “Loving Husband Dad and Grandpa”Anthony “Tony” Hoffman passed away peacefully at the family home in San Mateo, California. He was a loving husband to Frances (Ahonen) Hoffman and father of Julie and Edward Hoffman. He has one grandchild, Anna Fessler-Hoffman. Tony Hoffman served for four years in the U.S. Navy until the end of World War II as a machinist and salvage diver. After an honorable discharge he was employed as a journeyman machinist until he was elected by members of the International Association of Machinists (IAM) local to serve as a business representative. He served the IAM Grand Lodge for 40 years. Upon retirement, Tony and his wife, Frances, organized families of the mentally ill in San Mateo County. They later co-founded the Alliance for the Mentally Ill (AMI) in California and on a National level. He served on the Board of Directors for the local, state and national AMI organizations. He also served on the Board of Protection and Advocacy, Inc., a California statewide advocacy organization for the disabled, and the San Mateo County Mental Health Board. Tony Hoffman will be remembered as a tireless and uncompromising advocate. Memorial services will be held at Skylawn Memorial Park Chapel of the Light, San Mateo, at 4pm on Saturday, April 1, 2000.
