Anna Virginia Chambers' Obituary
Anna Virginia Chambers, aged 97 of Foster City California, passed away on May 11, 2024.
She was born on a farm near Limon, Costa Rica on April 25th, 1927 to Enrique Rieger and Evangelina Rieger Valerio and was the fourth of 7 children.
She went to work at 18 at the United Fruit Company in Quepos, Costa Rica where she met and married her beloved husband of 54 years, Arthur “Jim” Chambers of Canterbury, England. They emigrated to the America in 1951 and after a few adventures settled in the San Francisco Bay Area. She was a 50 year resident of Foster City.
She worked for 30 years at AT&T where she met many wonderful lifelong friends. She loved her family and friends and meeting people as she was very outgoing and social. After losing her beloved husband in 2002 she bravely ventured out to make a new life joining the Hillsdale Walkers Club, Foster 55+ Club, the Red Hat Society, and St Lukes Bible study. She had many interests and hobbies over her long life but her one constant was family and her love of traveling. She and her husband traveled extensively over the world and later she loved cruising with her daughter and yearly trips to Costa Rica. Her last cruise last
October/November 2023 to the Panama Canal was specifically to visit family on the port stop in Costa Rica where she was met by her sister Elizabeth and nephews Bernardo, Max and Randolph. It was a great day.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Arthur “Jim” Chambers, her sister Matilda Taylor Rieger and her three brothers Francisco, Enrique and Otto. She is survived by her daughter Jeanne Chambers, her sisters, Elizabeth Rieger and Cecilia Pereira Rieger and beloved nephews and nieces and her “adopted” grandchildren Tessa and Byron Chow. Who all brought her immense joy.
In lieu of flowers, donation to Leukemia and Lymphoma Society or Macular Degeneration Foundation.
Services with be held May 31st at St. Lukes Catholic church in Foster city. Celebration of Life to follow.
