Andres Dubuk's Obituary
Andres Dubuk was born on 21 September 1925 in Hlukhy, Volynskaya Oblast, Ukraine. He was the eldest sibling to Eustaquio, Juan and Maria. Due to political unrest, Eustaquio Dubuk, Andres’ father, and the family sailed to South America in 1937, with proceeds from the sale of their land. The ship first came to port in Buenos Aires then continued up the Parana River to Paraguay, where the family temporarily lived in barracks built by the Paraguayan government.
The family eventually settled in Colonia Fram where Andres was finally able to attend school for the first time, in 1938/39. Unfortunately, his schooling was short lived as his mother soon died and he took over mom-duties in the home. Eventually, Andres’ father re-married and had two more children, Ana and Basilio.
In 1948/49, Andres moved to the city of Carmen del Parana to find employment. Later in 1949, he moved again, but this time to Buenos Aires, where he found work in upholstery.
In 1966, Andres began the process immigrating to the US and the family finally arrived on August 24, 1970, where they lived temporarily in Anatoli Kozaczuk’s home, who had immigrated a number of years earlier. Shortly afterwards, they rented a home in Burlingame and finally, in 1972, purchased their own home in San Mateo where they have lived ever since.
Andres was a caring husband, a hardworking father, and a supportive member of the Slavic church in San Mateo, where he attended until his struggle with pancreatic cancer began in April of 2019. He remained courageous and faithful to the Lord these past eight months. Andres enjoyed many visits and farewells from friends and family, both in person and over the telephone, and even traveled to both Pine Mountain Lake and the wine-country one last time this past summer. He was blessed with 94 years of life and is survived by two sisters, his wife of sixty-two years of marriage, two sons, three daughters, 4 grandchildren and 2 great-grandchildren.
