Amy McEwan's Obituary
Amy McEwan passed away in her sleep on September 10, 2025, at the age of 65. She was born in Ford Ord, California, to parents Richard and Helen Couderc. A self-described “army brat,” Amy lived in Monterey, the San Francisco Presidio, South Korea, and Germany, before her family eventually settled in San Jose.
In high school, Amy met her husband John McEwan, a man somehow lucky enough to marry the most beautiful person he had ever seen. The young couple married in 1981 and had two boys, Sean and Ryan. Amy continued her education as a young mother, obtaining a Bachelor’s Degree in Economics from San Jose State University. The family moved from San Jose to Lake Oswego in 1993. Amy was a homemaker, raising two boys, and also helped John run the family businesses—first Meltec, an amusement games manufacturer, and later Restaurant Five-O-Three in West Linn.
Amy will be remembered lovingly for her kindness, generosity, and sharp wit. She was compassionate and a great listener, genuinely interested in others’ well-being and knowing about their lives. A seemingly modest and soft-spoken person, Amy often delivered unexpected and devastatingly funny quips not soon forgotten.
Amy was a voracious reader. She enjoyed going to the movies and taking walks with her husband. She liked simple foods and, despite being Korean, had no stomach for spicy food (including kim chi!).
Amy is survived by her husband John, brother Richard, sons Sean and Ryan, and grandchildren Linnea, Riley, Liam, and Henry. A funeral service will be held on Sunday, September 21, 2025, at the Skylawn Memorial Park in Half Moon Bay, California. The viewing will begin at 12:00 p.m. and the graveside service at 2:00 p.m.
In lieu of flowers, the family suggests donations to the Oregon Food Bank.
