Amy Hu's Obituary
Amy (Ai Yu) Hu, aged 91, of San Jose, passed away peacefully in her home on April 21, 2023 at 6:00pm, surrounded by her children.
She was born on October 4, 1931 in Shanghai, China. Her ancestral home was Xiangtan in east-central Hunan province, south-central China. Her late husband was Zhou Chuan De.
Amy’s entire life was marked by challenges, at times unimaginably cruel and heart wrenching, but she faced them all with great courage, strength, and resilience. Tragically widowed in 1969, she shouldered the responsibility of raising four children on her own, with no support system. Despite all her pain, she did not become a bitter woman, but remained a loving mother and a kindhearted friend to others.
In 2008 Amy suffered her second stroke and was later diagnosed with Parkinson’s Disease, and lived the last 15 years of her life partially paralyzed and immobile, an unfortunate contrast to her decades as an independent and physically active senior citizen. In spite of her illness, she kept a spirited mindset and never gave up on life or living. Her loved ones are comforted with the knowledge that she no longer suffers pain or illness.
Amy is survived by one son and three daughters and their spouses: Wayne and Eva Chow, Min Zhou and LanGen Li, Jin and Benny To, Qi Zhou and YouYong Lin; five grandchildren and their spouses: Ze Li, YaLiu and Stella Lin, Isabel Anne and Jose Torres, Sherry Zhou, Karen Zhou; and two great-grandchildren: Jonathan Lin and Jasmine Lin.
A private funeral for close family was held on May 5, 2023 at 9am at Skylawn Funeral Home and Memorial Park.
