Amelia Fung's Obituary
Amelia Fung passed away peacefully surrounded by her family on April 23, 2011 in Redwood City, CA after a long battle with cancer. Born on July 18, 1948 to Yun Fan Kan and Yin Yun Lam in Hong Kong, she was 62 years old. As a child, Amelia participated in gymnastics, but found her true passion in playing the piano. She graduated from New Method High School in Hong Kong and later went on to study at both the College of San Mateo and California State University in San Jose. There, she furthered her expertise in piano, graduating with a Bachelor's Degree in music. On December 4, 1972, Amelia married the love of her life, Andrew Fung in San Mateo, CA. On December 25, 1974 the young couple was blessed with the birth of their first child, Gregory Fung. Five and a half years later, they added a daughter, Andrea, and ultimately settled in Belmont, CA. Throughout her life, Amelia had a very active career working in the real estate industry as an agent and mortgage broker, and owned various small businesses throughout the bay area. Among them, she owned and operated a day care center in San Jose, CA. Amelia was a kind and generous woman whose passion for music was always evident. Her best moments were when she was with her family, especially caring for and playing with her three grandchildren. Her other hobbies included playing mah jong with her friends and being a part of the exercise group LTK. Amelia's gentle spirit will be missed by all those she touched. Amelia is survived by her loving husband of 38 years, Andrew; their two children and their spouses, Gregory and Sarah, and Andrea and Mark, of San Mateo; and three young grandchildren, Katie, Emily, and Jackson. Amelia is also survived by her brother Tony Kan and his wife Angela of Foster City, and eleven nieces and nephews, Debbie, Larry, Dorothy, Victor, Lisa; Audrey, Blanche, Carl; Henry and Shirley; and Rosa. In lieu of flowers, the Fung family suggests donations be made to the American Cancer Society in Amelia's name, or the Community Baptist Church of San Mateo. American Cancer Society P.O.
