Alyce Wang's Obituary
My mother was born in Anhui providence, near the city of Hefei on May 1935. She was the fifth child with three older sisters, one older brother, two younger sisters and one younger brother. My mother traveled with her older brother and younger sister to Taiwan after WWII in 1947. There she completed her high school and two years of teacher college and taught in kindergarten. My uncle and my father were high school classmates and they were introduced to each other in 1956. She worked in the postal service until their marriage in 1956. Two years later, mom and dad got married on February 2, 1958. They resided in Kaoshiung where my father worked as engineer in Taiwan Aluminum Company. My two brothers and I were born 1959, 1961 and 1964. She became a full time mother then. In 1968 our family moved to Hong Kong as my father accepted the chief engineer position at Meyers Aluminum Co. Five years later, December 1973 we moved to Corvallis Oregon to begin a whole new challenging life. My father returned to Hong Kong then Indonesia and continued his successful career in Aluminum fabrication until retirement in 2003. My mother basically raised my brothers and I through the interesting teenage years alone. Mom enjoyed and excelled in all sorts of sports. She ran in tracks during high school, and played badminton then. Tennis became her passion while we were in Corvallis. She enjoyed making many friends. My dad and mom moved to Fremont as my two brothers began to work in the Bay Area. She then became dedicated grandmother or “Grandma-taxi”, ferrying her charges around the southern Bay Area. We bought a pair of Honda minivan together 12 years ago. Hers was retired after 120k miles 4-5 years ago while mine is still working with only 80k miles . She was a devoted mother, always supporting, protecting and providing delicious food for her children and grandchildren. I could not recall any angry words from her although we certainly deserved many. She had always wanted the best for us. Her deeds spoke for her, instead her lectures. Her sudden death on March 8th took all of us by surprise and we will all miss her immensely. She was survived by my father, three sisters, one brother, three sons and eight grandchildren.Written by son, Dennis 3/12/2014Services in her honor will be held at Skylawn Funeral Home and Memorial Park.
