Mr. Alois J. Strnad's Obituary
Alois Josef Strnad
April 28,1936-March 16, 2023
Our dear husband, father, and grandfather, Alois, passed away on March 16, 2023. He is survived by his loving wife of 60 years, Elizabeth. He is also survived by his daughters, Zuzanka (Susie) Vosky and Eva Strnad Sherman, son in laws Dmitry Vosky and Douglas Sherman, and granddaughters, Natasha and Sofia Vosky. Alois was a wonderful father and deeply loved by his family. He was extremely adventurous, determined, playful, and always up for a challenge. Alois was born in Prague and immigrated from the former Czechoslovakia with his wife Elizabeth, two young daughters, and little else to pursue the American dream. He succeeded in his pursuit, working as a new immigrant on researching data systems at MIT, building teams through his innovative management style at Bank of America and Tandem Computers, and identifying manufacturing companies in the Czech Republic, Slovakia, and Poland for investment prospects as a partner and venture capitalist at Renaissance Partners. His efforts significantly contributed to ATM networks as we know them today. Personally, he was an avid train collector and enjoyed many other varied pursuits including travel, tennis, skiing, chess, and producing Super 8 family films. Some of his fondest memories came from reuniting his former colleagues from Bank of America at his annual backyard barbecues where they enjoyed gathering from all across the country to reminisce about Alois and his out of the box management style. Alois exemplified a strong character and instilled the importance of hard work and dedication in his children and grandchildren. He inspired them to travel globally, to pursue their advanced degrees, and to seek novel experiences abroad as well as domestically. Every weekend and holiday, Alois led his family to new adventures, including traveling to Asia, Africa, and Europe as well as camping in the redwood forest and skiing in Tahoe. Alois was generous and kind in an unconventional way and will always be remembered for his spirited political discourse as well as his truly Bohemian intellectualism. In lieu of flowers, kindly donate to HIAS (the Hebrew Immigrant Aid Society), to help refugees pursue their dreams. Although Alois made it very clear that although Elizabeth was Jewish and he was not, the organization HIAS loaned money and assisted with housing during the Strnad family immigration from Czechoslovakia to the United States in 1969. https://hias.org/how/ways-give/ There will be a small family service at the burial site. The family would very much appreciate shared memories and photos that may be submitted on the Skylawn memorial website for Alois Strnad and or emailed to [email protected] and [email protected].
