Almeta White-Brent's Obituary
During the evening of August 20, 2008, Almeta 'Neda' White-Brent peacefully and with extraordinary grace succumbed to her battle with breast cancer; she was 61. Baptized at an early age, Neda was a member of the New Director Baptist Church. Born March 26, 1947, to the late Willie 'Pete' and the late Cora Mae White; with continued love and nurturing from her step father, the late Eddie Childs Sr. She was predeceased by her husband the late Charles B. Brent. She leaves to cherish her loving memory; her sister: Mary Jane Childs, of Arkansas; her brother: Eddie Childs Jr. and his wife Endia, of Texas; her two daughters: Jacquline Jones, of Oakland, and Monica Lee and her husband John, of Hayward; her grandson: Kenneth Jones, of San Francisco; her two nephews: Philip and Daniel Childs, of Texas; her partner, Otis Grayson, of San Francisco; many bonus babies including: Christine Grayson, of Oakland; and a host of aunts, uncles, other relatives and friends. Fearless and adventurous, at the age to 23 Neda set out to blaze a trail from a small town in Arkansas to the bright light of San Francisco. With her two babies in tow and the love, support and encouragement of her aunts, Elizabeth, Rosa, Minnie, Katie, Missie, and her uncle, Freeman; she took the city by the tail and succeeded where so many had failed. If there were a headline that told the story of her life, 'Small time girl makes good!' would in deed be one of the captions. Through the many ups and downs in her life, her infectious positive outlook and perseverance would be home to those who needed a hand, a shoulder to cry one; an ear to listen; and a stomach to fill. Always the optimist, she knew that 'nothing was worth a failure but a try', which was one of many of her motivational creeds, and succeed at whatever she focused her mind on. She loved life, her family and friends. She will be greatly missed; and, how blessed were we to have her in our lives. A going home celebration for Neda will be held on Friday, August 29, 2008 at the Lifemark Center at Skylawn Memorial Park, located at Highway 92 and Skyline Blvd, San Mateo, CA 94402. Public visitation begins at 11:00am, follow by a public funeral service beginning at 12:30pm with committal services soon thereafter and follow by a public reception.Services Entrusted to:Lifemark Center at Skylawn Memorial Park(650) 349-4411
