Alicia Arredondo Ybarra's Obituary
It is with heavy hearts and a deep sense of sorrow that we announce the passing of our beloved Mother, Wife, Grandma, Friend, and Colleague Alicia. Who left this world on January 26th, 2024 after a valiant 2.5 year battle with Gallbladder Cancer. She was 65 years old. In her absence, we reflect on the immense love and grace that defined her life and enriched ours.
Alicia was born on January 22nd, 1959 to Guadalupe and Avelina Arredondo/Rivera in San Mateo, CA. From that moment, her presence became a beacon of warmth and love in our lives. Her kindness was boundless, and her generosity knew no limits. Whether it was a comforting embrace, a reassuring smile, or a simple act of kindness, she had an extraordinary gift for making others feel seen and loved.
Tragedy struck early in Alicia’s life when, in her early teens, she lost both her parents. The weight of such profound loss could have easily overwhelmed a young soul, but Alicia chose a different path. Instead of succumbing to despair, she embraced the pain, transformed it, and emerged with a spirit that defied the shadows.
Her journey through grief became a testament to the human spirit's capacity for healing and growth. Alicia navigated the complexities of adolescence with an extraordinary grace, turning her sorrow into a catalyst for compassion. The empathy she cultivated through her own pain became a guiding force, shaping the way she connected with others and imparting a profound understanding of the fragility of life
Later in life Alicia met her Husband, Jose in 1987 at a dance. They’ve been together for over thirty seven years. They went on to have two children, Sonia and Jamie. As well as three grandchildren Brianna, Bella, and Valentina.
Throughout her life, Alicia found joy in the serenity of nature, cherishing tranquil moments outdoors, yet her eyes also sparkled with delight as she embraced the enchantment of Disneyland, where the magic of fantasy and family united in cherished memories. Alicia enthusiastically cheered on her favorite sports team the San Francisco Giants whenever she got the chance to attend the ballpark and indulge in garlic fries. Alicia felt most alive as she embraced the rhythm of life, loving to dance and sing with unbridled joy, turning everyday moments into a celebration of music and movement. Alicia was always the first to get on the dance floor and last to leave.
Alicia Served thirty one years before retiring at the San Mateo County Sheriff’s Office in Redwood City as an Office administrator leaving behind a lasting impact for her community. From a Young Adolescent woman who came from nothing, she gave her family everything.
The void left by her passing is immeasurable, but we find comfort in the knowledge that her love will continue to shape our lives.
A heartfelt memorial service to celebrate Alicia’s life will be held on Friday February 9th at 12pm-2pm. At Skylawn Memorial Park.
Her family will go on to live two lives. One for themselves and one for their beloved Alicia.
Rest in peace, dearest Alicia Your love was a gift, and your memory will be our greatest treasure. We will always love you. In any Universe. May the force be with you. Always.

Es con el corazón pesado y una profunda sensación de dolor que anunciamos el fallecimiento de nuestra amada madre, esposa, abuela, amiga y colega Alicia. Quién dejó este mundo el 26 de enero de 2024 después de una valiente batalla de 2,5 años contra el cáncer de vesícula biliar? Ella tenía 65 años. En su ausencia, reflexionamos sobre el inmenso amor y gracia que definió su vida y enriqueció la nuestra.
Alicia nació el 22 de enero de 1959, hija de Guadalupe y Avelina Arredondo/Rivera en San Mateo, CA. A partir de ese momento, su presencia se convirtió en un faro de calidez y amor en nuestras vidas. Su amabilidad no tenía límites, y su generosidad no conocía límites. La tragedia golpeó al principio de la vida de Alicia cuando, en su adolescencia, perdió a sus dos padres. Alicia sirvió treinta y un años antes de jubilarse en la Oficina del Sheriff del Condado de San Mateo en Redwood City como administradora de la Oficina, dejando un impacto duradero para su comunidad. De una joven adolescente que vino de la nada, le dio todo a su familia.
El vacío dejado por su muerte es inconmensurable, pero encontramos consuelo en el conocimiento de que su amor continuará dando forma a nuestras vidas.

Su familia vivirá dos vidas. Uno para ellos y otro para su amada Alicia.
