Albert Oscar Erickson's Obituary
Albert was born January 30th 1916 in San Francisco to Oscar and Naomi Erickson. His parents were Swedish born and met while visiting in the United States. Albert died August 3rd at 4:00am in the Hospice Unit at the Palo Alto VA Hospital. He was a wonderful father and husband. Albert spent several years working for the Southern Pacific Railroad going from ticket agent to passenger agent on the 'Daylight' train to Los Angeles. He enlisted in the US Army in the beginning of WWII and was sent to O.C.S., graduating as Infantry Lieutenant. He and Mary June Buck were married in Little Rock, AR on May 5th 1943 and lived in many army camps while Albert was involved in military training. He was sent overseas and was involved in the D Day landing in Normandy (Utah Beach). After extensive European combat experience (earning 3 Purple Hearts!), he came home at the war's end to see his 9 month old daughter, Ethel, for the first time. He went back to work for the S.P. and soon thereafter his son Jon was born. Al and his father, Oscar, started Erickson Wood Products located in Belmont and the family moved to Menlo Park. The Ericksons built a beautiful house in Aptos and enjoyed living by Monterey Bay after Al retired. He and Mary June traveled extensively, taking many elder hostel trips and several cruises. They were married for 66 years. Albert is survived by his wife, Mary June; his daughter Ethel Daly and her husband Gene; son Jon Erickson and his wife Patti; and nieces Jan Chamberlin, Trudy Edwards and Patti Buck. Memorial Service will be held Saturday, August 22 at 1:00pm at The Lifemark Center at Skylawn Memorial Park, Highway 92 at Skyline Blvd., San Mateo, CA (650) 349-4911.
