I thought I would put what I read for Aditya’s memorial here. Miss you my friend?see you out on the water. Dear Aditya?s family, I met Aditya around 2008 and was immediately impressed by his energy but a bit concerned as it seemed like he lived at BIAC, the aquatic center where we all paddled. We got to know each other better and he would later join my dragon boat team, the Dragon Warriors, in 2010. We have paddled on the water together ever since. From the time I spent with him, I know you must be so proud to have produced such a fine son in Aditya and I am profoundly sad for your loss. I hope that you can take some small comfort in knowing that Aditya inspired us all with his bright charisma and with a passion so strong that will remain with us on the water always. It is no secret how important paddling was to Aditya but you may not realize how important he was to the paddling community. In dragon boat, Aditya paddled with Mountain View DB, Dieselfish, Dragon Warriors, BAD, Cali United, and S&M Paddling Club here in the Bay Area. Outside of the Bay Area, he paddled with UC San Diego, Abby Normal and Team USA and others at the highest levels in our sport. In outrigger, he paddled with Hui Wa?a here and San Diego Outrigger down south, and, my favorite grouping, was the unofficial Sunday morning paddling gang, with whom he took his last paddle. To any one else, that is a crazy number of different groups but to Aditya, it was just one big paddling family with members who happened to be more concerned with the groupings than he was. On the water, he just saw everyone as his friend. Though he thrived on competing at world levels he loved just as much to spend time sharing his knowledge with those brand new to paddling. He would bend over backwards to make folks enjoy the water. If you needed a boat or a paddle, he would lend you his own in a heartbeat or find you one to buy. In my case he tried to make my enjoyment greater by not beating me by too much when we raced. It was this genuine and selfless enthusiasm that truly made him special. In all that he did, he always did so with great caring, amazing generosity and, without fail, with fun, positive energy. Certainly, the paddling world was better with Aditya in it. Our lives were enriched during the brief time that we had to spend with him and he will be sorely missed. I am honored and thankful to have know your son and devastated by his transition?but I take comfort knowing that he left us doing what he loved and by the knowledge that he continues to paddle on the other side and, to use his words, that ?it?s all good? I now understand how the life of one person can change the world to be a better place. May I be a better person for knowing you Aditya. I look forward to meeting you again. Rest in peace.
Gorgeous family!
Aditya was full of love, passion and energy. I adored every moment that we shared in and out of the water. He made me smile and laugh each time he fb’d me. He was never short on friendship and he had more smarts than I will ever have. I pray to be reunited with Aditya in the future so that I can give him the hugs and have the honor to paddle with him once more! Christina Phan on FB wall of ?Aditya Kadam “I compete in DB not for myself but only for those around me, to see how much they want to do well, how much it means to them, to see smiles on their face and watch their hard work give results.” – DA Excerpts from your blog embody your true spirit and dedication to helping others grow.
Lauren Jow on FB wall of ?Aditya Kadam Aditya, we first really met when we sat next to each other during a post-race dinner in high school and laughed the whole time. After that, I went online and made a Facebook, even though I said I wouldn’t until college, just so I could keep in contact with you. Thank you for taking me to prom ? yours and mine. Even though you were 6-foot-2 and I was 5-feet, we made the slow dancing work somehow. Thank you for being so unfailingly sweet and kind. And even after our lives took separate paths, thank you for always being the first one to reach back out. Thank you for pulling more water, running harder and farther, and inspiring so many people to pursue what brought us all together as family. You always knew what you believed in, and you believed in us. I hope the current is always with you.
Linda Lim on Aditya’s FB Wall DA, I can’t believe just exactly last Friday we were talking about Boba and making fun of each other. Then now out of no where, your not with us anymore but forever in our memories…I am still in shock. I remember when we first met in Tempe, Arizona less than two years ago. I didn’t know my way around so I ended up following your SUV that weekend with my crazy driving and along with my failure to get gas that night. Man…this is so unbelievable. You are one of the most determined and passionate people I know. You were always there to encourage and to help others out of the kindness of your heart. I will always miss the times I played LOL and Guild Wars2 with you. I am going to miss you along with your love for your sport, cookies, boba…food. Rest in Peace.
Peggy Benenato on FB wall of Aditya Kadam Aditya, I can’t stop thinking about you and how unfair this is to you and your family. I remember the days at our house with all of you guys playing HALO half upstairs and half downstairs. You were always one of the nicest kids there. Not to mention all the years I watched you on the track team. I never heard anything but nice things about you and we are all so incredibly sad. You will definitely be missed. My heart is breaking for your family.
