ZongXuan Jiang's Obituary
中国科学院大连化学物理研究所研究员、博士生导师蒋宗轩因病医治无效，已于美国西部时间2017年12月4日，18时54分在加州旧金山湾区与世长辞，享年55岁。蒋宗轩研究员1962年9月22日出生于中国四川省广安市。1984年毕业于西华师范大学；1984-1988年在四川省广安文教局教研室工作；1991年在中国科学院大连化学物理研究所获得硕士学位；1991-2004年在中石化抚顺石油化工研究院从事科研工作。2003年在中国科学院大连化学物理研究所获得博士学位；2003-2004年在法国催化研究所做博士后；2004年12月加入大连化学物理研究所催化基础国家重点实验室，从事环境及绿色催化研究。1987年与王安莲女士完婚，并育有一子。蒋宗轩研究员主要致力于燃料油（汽油、柴油）超深度脱硫方面的研究，成功地将科研成果在工业上应用，使中国拥有了多项具有自主知识产权的清洁燃料油生产技术。他先后成功主持完成中石化工业性试验项目，中石油、中石化等省部级研究项目十余项。作为项目骨干参与973项目课题2项，主持国家自然科学基金项目3项。在本领域国内外主流刊物发表文章40余篇，申请中国专利60余件，授权38件，申请美国发明专利6件，授权4件。特别是在工业化方面，在他30多年学习和工作积累下，成功完成了与延长石油集团合作的FCC汽油固定床超深度催化吸附脱硫万吨级中试试验，并且实现了40万吨/年重汽油超深度脱硫项目。通过中国石油化学工业联合会组织的成果鉴定，认为该技术”拥有自主知识产权、为国际首创，整体处于国际同类技术的领先水平”。另外，还实现了20万吨/年柴油超深度脱硫产业化。通过中国石油化学工业联合会组织的成果鉴定，认为该技术”属于国际领先水平”。汽、柴油超深度脱硫技术取得成功并双双在工业上得到应用，这对我国清洁油品生产技术升级换代具有重要的现实意义，特别是对于缓减大气环境污染、防治雾霾起到了直接的作用。为了实现这一目标，他长期无论白天黑夜地超负荷工作，并奔波于实验室、工厂以及技术推广现场，最终为此献出了年轻的生命。蒋宗轩研究员在致力科学研究的同时，还注重对年轻人才的培养，先后培养研究生10余名，是一名深受学生爱戴的优秀导师。蒋宗轩研究员严谨治学、诲人不倦、勇于创新的精神，深深地感染和影响着每一位科技工作者。蒋宗轩研究员为人平和，低调，礼让；生活简单朴素。他服从组织服从领导，全心全意地完成领导交给的任务。对父母孝顺，对兄弟姐妹关心爱护，对家人体贴，对朋友真诚、有求必应。他的离世，是国家的损失，是中国科学院的损失，是大连化学物理研究所的损失，更是家人的重大损失。2016年4月诊断为胰腺癌后，他一直在北京肿瘤医院接受治疗。经过多个疗程的化放疗，一度情况稳定。2017年八月后病情加重，遂赴美治疗。患病期间，他一边坚持治疗，尽量参加运动，增加饮食；一边仍积极参与和处理项目相关事宜。他一直希望战胜病魔，早日重返工作岗位。他的这种坚强、永不放弃的精神令人钦佩。正如鲁迅先生在《中国人失掉自信力了吗》文中所说，“我们从古以来，就有埋头苦干的人，有拼命硬干的人，有为民请命的人，有舍身求法的人，虽是等于为帝王将相作家谱的所谓“正史”，也往往掩不住他们的光耀，这就是中国的脊梁。”，而蒋宗轩研究员正是鲁迅笔下“中国的脊梁”。他身后留下妻子，儿子，儿媳和孙子。丧礼追思会将于近期在Skylawn墓园举行。Zongxuan Jiang, professor and doctoral supervisor at the Dalian Institute of Chemical Physics (DICP), Chinese Academy of Sciences, died of cancer at the age of 55 in the San Francisco Bay Area, California, on December 4, 2017 at 18:54 PST.Prof. Zongxuan Jiang was born on September 22, 1962 in Guang’an, Sichuan Province, China. He graduated from West China Normal University in 1984. He worked in the Teaching and Research Office of Guang’an Cultural and Educational Bureau of Sichuan Province from 1984 to 1988. Then he obtained a master’s degree from DICP, in 1991, and worked in Fushun Research Institute of Petrochemical Industry, Sinopec from 1991 to 2004. He received his Ph.D. degree from the DICP in 2003 and postdoctoral fellow from Institute of Researches on Catalysis and Environment in Lyon (IRCELYON), France from 2003 to 2004. He joined the State Key Laboratory of Catalysis, DICP, in December 2004 to engage in environmental and green catalysis research. In 1987, He was married to Ms. Anlian Wang, and they have a son.Prof. Zongxuan Jiang focused on the research of ultra-deep desulfurization of fuel oil (gasoline and diesel), and successfully applied scientific research achievements in industry so that China has owned a number of clean fuel oil production technologies with independent intellectual property rights. He has successfully presided over the completion of Sinopec Industrial Experimental Project, and more than 10 provincial and ministerial level research projects of PetroChina and Sinopec. He was the backbone of two “973 projects” and presided over three National Natural Science Fund Projects. He has published more than 40 articles in major domestic and foreign journals, applied for more than 60 Chinese patents (38 granted) and applied for 6 invention patents in the United States (4 granted).Especially in the aspect of industrialization, based on his 30 years of study and work, he successfully delivered the 10,000-ton pilot trial of fixed-bed ultra-deep catalytic adsorption desulfurization of FCC gasoline with Yanchang Petroleum Group and achieved ultra-deep desulfurization of 400,000 tons gasoline per year. According to the appraisal of the results by China Petroleum & Chemical Industry Federation (CPCIF), the technology “owns independent intellectual property rights and is a creation in the world. Overall it has reached international advanced standards among similar technologies.” In addition, the industrialization of ultra-deep desulfurization of 200,000 tons diesel oil per year has also been realized. According to the appraisal of the results by CPCIF, the technology has “reached international advanced standards”. The success of ultra-deep desulfurization technology in both gasoline and diesel, and their application in industry have important practical significance for the upgrading of China’s clean oil production technology, especially for alleviating atmospheric pollution and preventing haze. In order to achieve this goal, he has long been overworked no matter day or night and rushing to laboratories, factories and technology promotion venues incessantly. Eventually he has yield his young life to it.While devoted to scientific research, Prof. Zongxuan Jiang also pays very close attention to the training of young talents. He has successively cultivated more than 10 graduate students. He is an excellent mentor loved by students. His rigorous scholarship, tirelessness, courageous and innovative spirit, deeply infected and affected every scientific and technological workers.Prof. Zongxuan Jiang is peaceful, low-keyed and polite. He lives a simple life. He is obedient to the leadership and wholeheartedly fulfills the task entrusted by the leadership. He is filial to parents, caring for brothers and sisters, considerate for his family, sincere and responsive to friends. His death is not only the loss of the country, the Chinese Academy of Sciences, and DICP, but also a great loss to his family. After the diagnosis of pancreatic cancer in April 2016, he has been treated in Beijing Cancer Hospital. After multiple courses of chemotherapy and radiotherapy, his health condition was once stable. It got worse after August 2017 and he came to the United States for treatment. During his long illness, he insisted on accepting treatment, exercising and increasing diet; at the same time, he was still actively involved in and dealing with work-related issues. He has always wanted to overcome the disease so he can return to work as soon as possible. His spirit of adamant and never giving up is admirable.Just as written by Mr. Lu Xun in his essay “Have Chinese Lost Their Self-Confidence?” – “Since ancient times, we have people among us who have toiled hard at work; some have ram through obstacles to get things done; some others have pleaded to authority on the needs of ordinary people; many others have pursued truths at all costs. Even the official historical chronicles tracing the achievements of emperors, generals and ministers cannot obscure glitter of these peoples’ contributions. Such people constitute the backbone of China.” Prof. Zongxuan Jiang is “the backbone of China” as such.He is survived by his wife, son, daughter-in-law and grandson. His funeral will be held at Skylawn Cemetery.
