Yong Gu's Obituary
Yong Gu, at age of 90, passed away at Stanford Hospital on September 24th, 8:25am.
She was born on December 25th, 1931, in Shanghai, China, to parents Huan Zhang Gu and Pei Yu Ye. She grew up in a family with a successful leather manufacturing business. Therefore, she was able to get catholic education in her adolescent time and became a Christian from that age. Afterwards, she attended Zhejiang University medical school. During her college years, new China was born in 1949. Although her parents moved to Hong Kong, she decided to stay to help people with her medical skills learned. Ever since she graduated, she had been working as an internal medicine doctor with HuangPu District Hospital in Shanghai, China throughout her career until she retired. During her career, she saved many lives, helped many people to heal from various diseases and back to their normal life. Very often happily recovered patients came to visit her over the weekends to thank her for her superb treatment. As a doctor's great obligation, she joined the medical group numerous times to visit rural areas near Shanghai to help farmers. Those tours were highly stressful. Usually there were more than ten operations taking place every day, so doctors had to work almost day and night. She moved to the US shortly after her retirement.
She had been helping raise her grandchildren as well as helping friends and enjoying a retirement life.
Yong Gu is survived by children Han Chang & Hui Yu, Ning Zhang, and Xin Zhang, grandchildren Tiffany Chang, Timothy Chang, and Warren Cai.
顾湧于9月24日上午8点25分在美国加州斯坦福医院逝世，享年九十岁。
顾湧1931 年 12 月 25 日出生于中国上海，父亲顾涣章是一位享誉沪上的皮革商人，家境优渥。作为家中长女也是唯一的女儿，少时家世傍身，就读于上海清心女中，这所教会女子中学的前身是由美国基督教长老会传教士范约翰及夫人来沪创办的清心书院。毕业之后，顾湧考入浙江大学医学院。大学求学期间，1949年新中国诞生。虽然她的父母移居香港，但她决定留下来完成学业并用她所学的医学知识帮助人们。毕业后一直在中国上海市黄浦区中心医院担任内科医师直至退休。 六七十年代，作为医院的骨干专家，她多次加入巡回医疗大队，到上海附近农村帮助贫下中农。 在极其艰苦的医疗条件下，通常每天要进行十多台手术，医生几乎要昼夜不停地工作，为了治病救人她毫无怨言。在她的职业生涯中，她挽救了许多生命，帮助许多人治愈了各种疾病，恢复正常生活。 每逢节假日和周末，经常会有经她医治康复的病人前来拜访感谢她的仁心医术。她退休后不久就移居美国。 除了做一些力所能及的工作之外，她还帮忙照顾孙子孙女，热心帮助邻里朋友，发挥各种兴趣爱好，长期积极参与各类志愿者服务，享受丰富多彩而有意义的退休生活。特别是虔诚地信奉基督教，使她得以在平安和喜乐中安享晚年。
