Wing Chau Lau's Obituary
Wing Chau passed away peacefully the evening of Thursday, May 7, 2020, at Sonoma Post Acute Nursing Home. Dedicated husband of Kin Tao Lau, devoted father of Nancy Lau, Steven (Jessica) Lau, Diana (Gordon) Lee, Monica (Dominic) Law; cherished grandfather of Briana, Alex, and Nick Lau, Aaron and Carrie Lee, Richard and Michelle Law; also survived by many loving family and friends and will be greatly missed by all.
Wing Chau was born on October 10, 1944 in Canton, Fa Yuen. He was the eldest of three siblings. He was raised in China and lived there until 1979. He had great appreciation for the arts and was athletic as a young man. He was talented in drawing and carving. He enjoyed making music with his harmonica. He also enjoyed playing basketball. Trained as a teacher, he taught grade school students in Arts and Physical Education. For better opportunities, at the age of 35, he and his wife took the whole family and left China and everything they knew to start a new life in the USA. With almost nothing and four young kids whose ages ranged from 2 months to 10 years old, he and his wife began their new journey in Chinatown, San Francisco. As a bean sprouts maker, he worked very hard. He and his wife bought a small house in Santa Rosa and moved the family there. After relocating to Santa Rosa, he found a new job as a grocer in a supermarket, where he worked until he retired at age 67.
He raised 4 kids who all graduated from good universities with Bachelor degrees in various disciplines of engineering. He was a simple man who found joy in the simple things of life – long walks, pruning trees in the backyard, watching movies on TV. He was happy just to have food on the table and a roof over his head. His joy lied in his family. His purpose was to give them a better life. His greatest pride was his kids.
Wing Chau will be dearly missed by everyone’s heart he touched. His simple enjoyment of life and his devotion to his family will always be remembered. A Celebration of Wing Chau’s Life will be held on Monday, 5/18/2020 at 12:00 pm, at Skylawn Funeral Home & Memorial Park.
