I was fortunate enough to know Auntie Pao Lin in 2006 when she showed interest in supporting the establishment of our 2nd centre in Wanchai, now the Jean Wei Centre, in memory of her mother. She didnââ?¬â?¢t ask same kind of questions like other donors, such as how we sustained the service after exhausting her donation. She just wrote her commitment on a clean paper: ââ?¬Å?Proceed bravely, Iââ?¬â?¢ll supportââ?¬Â. So brief, yet so clear and powerful! It was Mdm. Pao Lin Lee. She is a good model living in my heart, always reminding me of all those elegant human natures, such as loving, caring, grace, generosity, forgiveness, perseverance and intelligence. Her selfless love and care to her family and friends, her sympathy towards the less fortunate, her positive thinking and thoughtfulness impressed me deeply when we get closer. She was so warm and tender to everyone and yet so powerful in making decision and pursuing for meaningful endeavors! She didnââ?¬â?¢t need to teach much verbally, she just demonstrated by doing it. Mrs Lee, I am going to miss taking care of you. Every moring when I come in to take care of you, I always want to find a way so you can talk to me. When I ask if you want to get up? You will either nod your head or say ya. I am very happy when I get a response from you, because it means you can hear and understand me. One day you really surprised me, you started talking and all I can understand is the word “aya aya”. With the look in your face, I can tell you are in pain. I decided to record your voice through my cell phone and hoping Ingrid and janet can understand you. Finally, the comforter has come to take you where there is no more pain. Rest in peace Mrs Lee. Grandma Lee always had a warm heart and thought of my baby son, even though she has never met him. Her warmth and generosity touched many. Auntie Seven was a parental figure to me. I looked up to her. She was super smart, self assured and righteous, everything that I was not. As a youngster, I sought her approval and her opinion mattered. she taught me, an awkward and anxiety-ridden youngster, how to hold a pair of chopsticks properly, how to manipulate the blinds smoothly, how to speak assertively into the phone with the store owner ordering grocery and introduced me to my favorite snack to this day, salty potato chips, as we made the familiar Star Ferry crossing to her office on my summer break. She was, in a way, my life coach, during an impressionable period. She was deeply devoted to her family, especially Ingrid, as I witnessed how she gave up her nontraditional (for a woman of her time, it was pioneering if not outrageous) and lucrative career to care for Ingrid when she became seriously ill in her adolescence, and persevered successfully seeking medical treatment in the distant United States. Her last days had not been easy, to say the least. It was terribly sad to see her suffer so, and yet her will to live stayed strong. Now the struggle has finally ended. Her legacy lives on through her beloved children and grandchildren, while we, the still living, are left with lasting memories and regret.##imported-begin##Dora##imported-end##
I only met Mdm Lee once in the Baptist hospital where she accompanied her beloved husband. We talked about Prevention of falls in the community. Mdm Lee generously supported our program and in the last few weeks, her family repeated her gracious deed. It is great sadness that I learn the passing away of Mdm Lee from Dr. D Dai. Dearest Family, We had the honor and privilege of meeting Pauline only three times while visiting in Palo Alto.
