Tran, Luong Thanh's Obituary
Died at age 99 at home with family by her side on October 2, 2024.
She was born in Tainan, Taiwan on January 3, 1925.
At age 18, she married Chang Ti Siao, an agricultural engineer.
They moved to Hanoi, Vietnam after World War II to start a family.
Thanh Luong and her family fled Hanoi in 1955 at the start of the Vietnam Civil War. They
eventually settled in Saigon (now Ho Chi Minh City).
Chang Ti and Thanh Luong had 7 children over the course of 18 years. Four of the elder
children eventually grew up and moved out of Vietnam to start their own lives.
When the Vietnam War ended in 1975 with the takeover of South Vietnam by the Viet Cong
regime, the remaining family were forced to flee yet again. Luong, by this time a single mother,
escaped from Vietnam with her remaining children. They undertook the perilous journey by
boat to Supic Bay in the Philippines. From there, they made their way to Camp Pendleton in
San Diego. With the help of her eldest daughter, Thanh Luong and the rest of her children
finally, settled down in San Francisco.
Thanh Luong believed in soldiering on despite the obstacle’s life threw her way. She worked
hard to obtain her U.S. Citizenship and to end her reliance on government welfare to support
her family. She worked as a seamstress during her life in the U.S.
A strong, unyielding woman who survived the chaos of the Vietnam War, Thanh Luong instilled
in her children the importance of resiliency, persistency, and hard work.
She is survived by her seven children: Anne, John, Mary, Lien, Ted, Roger and Chris. She is also
survived by her army of grandchildren: Pauline, Enoch, Tung, Jerry, Janice, Wayland, Lori,
Nathan, Flora, Andrea, Ruth, Jessica, Brandon, Serena, and Justin. They in turn gave her a
battalion of great-grandchildren: Miriya, Isaiah, Ethan, Ellie, Colin, Daphne and Jamison with
one more on the way.
Thanh Luong lived a full and colorful life during her 99 years on Earth. We are grateful to have
her in our lives

生於1926年3月12日在台灣台南。
18 歲時,她與農業工程師蕭上地結婚。第二次世界大戰後, 他們遷移到越南河
內建立家庭。1955 年,越南內戰爆發, 淸凉與家人逃離河內。他們最終定居於
西貢,現為胡志明市。上地與淸凉在 18 年間共育有7個子女。其中四個年長的
的子女最終長大並離開越南開始自己的生活。
1975 年, 越戰結束,越共政權接管了南越。餘下的家人被迫再次逃亡。這時
的陳淸凉身為一位單親母親，帶著剩下的子女逃出越南。他們經歷危險的旅
程乘船前往菲律賓的 Supic Bay。然後再前往聖地牙哥的 Camp Pendleton,
在大女兒的幫助下,陳淸凉和其他子女最終於在舊金山定居。
儘管生活中會遇到各種障礙, 淸凉仍會堅持下去。她努力工作以獲得美國公
民身份, 並且不再依賴政府福利養家。在美國生活期間, 她從事裁縫工作。
淸凉是一位堅強不屈的女性。她在越南戰爭的混亂中生存了下來, 並向她的
子女灌輸了堅韌、堅持和努力工作的重要性。
她身後留下七個子女: Anne、John、Mary、Lien、Ted、Roger 和 Chris。她
身後還有一群孫子孫女: Pauline、Enoch、Tung、Jerry、Janice、Wayland
、Lori、Nathan、Flora、Andrea、Ruth、Jessica、Brandon、Serena 和
Justin, 並一群曾孫兒女: Miriya、Isaiah、Ethan、Ellie、Colin、Daphne
和 Jamison。
