Lily Li-Hua Huang's Obituary
Lily Li-Hua Huang, beloved daughter, mother, grandmother, and friend, passed away on June 2nd, 2023, in San Bruno, California leaving behind cherished memories and a legacy that will forever be etched in our hearts.
Lily was born on May 1st, 1940, in Dong Gang, Southern Taiwan, as the youngest of nine children. Growing up in a large and loving family, she was surrounded by siblings, along with numerous uncles, aunts, and cousins, creating a sense of community that shaped her early years during the War. As the youngest daughter of a prominent doctor, she enjoyed a full life, spending joyful hours playing in the backyard among guava and banana trees and working in the hospital helping her father fill medication prescriptions.
In 1961, Lily married her loving husband Nan-Shiong and settled in Kaoshiung, Taiwan. Together, they were blessed with four children: Jackson, Charles, Cindy, and Sherry. Life was good as they built a comfortable home, with Lily's husband excelling as the PE department head of a large high school and a distributor of various industrial materials. The family thrived in an atmosphere of love, support, and fun-filled trips around the island.
In 1975, together with her husband, Lily made the courageous decision to leave behind the familiarity and support of family to embark on a challenging immigrant journey to the United States for a better life. Determined to raise their family in this new environment, she and Nan-Shiong worked hard in the new country: speaking a foreign language, holding three jobs, and working as a waitress alongside her husband to make ends meet. Together, they created a new life and persevered through the trials and difficulties of building a future in an unfamiliar land.
The family eventually settled in Reno, where Lily continued to work as a waitress before finding a stable role at the University as a lab assistant. Her unwavering dedication to provide for her loved ones was evident in her tireless efforts and selflessness. Lily's efficiency in managing both her work and family responsibilities was remarkable, earning her the reputation of being the most efficient chef in the world. She could prepare a four-course meal in just 30 minutes, utilizing all four burners on the stove and the rice cooker at the same time, ensuring her family was nourished and cared for.
Lily's culinary skills were renowned, and her dishes brought delight to everyone who had the pleasure of tasting them. From her famous rolled pigs' ears, sweet rice with pork and mushrooms, pan-fried Taiwanese vermicelli, and teriyaki pork chops to her delightful creations as a well-known dessert chef, such as peanut rice milk and her famous mochi, Lily's culinary talents were a testament to her creativity and passion in the kitchen.
Lily had a zest for life. She delighted in traveling the world with Nan-Shiong, exploring Asia, Europe, and the Americas. No trip was too far or unfamiliar for her adventurous spirit. She instilled this spirit to explore in her children and encouraged them to reach into the unfamiliar, challenging them to seek out opportunities to learn and excel, that no dream was too big for her children if they put their minds to it. In this way, Lily was truly ahead of her time.
Lily had a unique passion for gaming and was a VIP at the Nugget Casino and Resort. Her generosity knew no bounds as she often shared her VIP status, hosting numerous guests at Nugget's famous buffet and steakhouse.
Though Lily's marriage to Nan-Shiong was often challenged by the changing landscape of politics, economy and managing family health, she held on with unwavering determination. After retiring from the University, she and Nan-Shiong moved back to San Francisco to be closer to friends and grandchildren. She and Nan-Shiong enjoyed their retirement years traveling and watching their grandchildren grow and thrive.
Tragically, eleven years ago, Lily suffered a major fall that led to a rapid decline in her health. Today, we bid farewell to our dear mother, and with heavy hearts, we find solace in knowing that she has found eternal peace in heaven in her homecoming with Nan-Shiong, her family and her Eternal Father. We know her body is restored again as she moves about freely, indulging in her favorite deserts, and enjoying her coffee with as many packs of sugar as she desires. We know that she is watching over us, her children, and grandchildren, and sees with joy and satisfaction that her life’s work was impactful on this Earth for her work honors the Lord.
Lily Li-Hua Huang will be deeply missed and forever remembered as a remarkable modern woman, ahead of her time, whose love, strength, and unwavering commitment to family touched the lives of all who had the privilege of knowing her. As we mourn her loss, we find comfort in the beautiful memories we shared and the legacy she leaves behind.

黃郭麗華,親愛的女兒、母親、祖母和朋友,於2023年6月2日在聖布魯諾去世,留下了珍貴的回憶和將永遠銘刻在我們的心中。
麗華於1940年5月1日出生於台灣南部東港,是九個孩子中最小的一個。她在一個充滿愛的 大家庭中長大,周圍都是兄弟姐妹,還有無數的叔叔、阿姨和堂兄弟姐妹, 營造出一種團結的感覺,這種感覺在戰爭期間塑造了她早年的生活. 作為一位名醫生的小女兒,她過著充實的生活,在後院的番石榴樹和香蕉樹間玩耍,在醫院工作,幫父親配藥。
1961年 麗華與深愛的丈夫南雄結婚,定居台灣高雄。他們共同擁有四個孩子: Jackson、 Charles、Cindy, Sherry。生活很美好,因為他們建造了一個舒適的家, 麗華是老板娘、丈夫是高中的體育系主任和各種工業材料的經銷商。這個家庭在充滿愛 和支持的氛圍中茁壯成。
1975年, 麗華和丈夫勇敢地決定離開台灣家鄉 的熟悉和支持,移民去美國為了讓孩子們追求更好的生活。在新的環境中,她和南雄努力工作, 雖然不會說太多英語,打三份工,以供養家庭。他們一起創造了新的生活,並在陌生的土地上經歷了風雨和困難,開創了未來。
一家人最終定居在里諾, 麗華在那裡繼續擔任女服務員,然後在大學找到了穩定的實驗室 助理職位。從她孜孜不倦的努力和無私中可以看出,她堅定不移地致力於供養她所愛的人。麗華在處理工作和家庭責任方面的效率非常高,為她贏得了世界上最有效率的廚師的美譽。她可以在短短30分鐘內,同時使用爐子上的所有四個燃燒器和電鍋, 準備一頓四道菜的晚餐, 確保她的家人得到營養和照顧。

儘管麗華與南雄的婚姻時常因經濟和家庭健康管理方面的變化而受到挑戰,但她堅定不移地堅持了下來。從大學實驗室退休後,她和南雄搬回舊金山,以便與朋友和孫子們更親近。她和南雄享受著退休後的歲月,四處旅行,看著他們的孫子們成長壯大。
不幸的是,十一年前, 麗華遭遇了一次重大跌倒,導致她的健康狀況迅速下降。今天,我們告別了我們親愛的母親,懷著沉重的心情,我們感到安慰的是,她在與南雄、她的家人和她永生的天父一起回家的過程中,在天堂找到了永恆的平安。我們知道她的身體再次恢復,因為她可以自由活動,沉迷於她最喜歡的甜點,並享用她想要的加糖的咖啡。我們知 道她在看顧著我們,她的孩子和孫子們,並且高興和滿意地看到她一生的工作對世界產生了影響,因為她的工作榮耀了上帝。
黃郭麗華將被深深懷念並永遠銘記,她是一位傑出的現代女性,她超越了她的時代,她的愛,力量和對家庭堅定不移的承諾感動了所有有幸認識她的人的生活。當我們哀 悼她的逝去時,我們會在我們分享的美好回憶和她留下的遺產中找到安慰。
