Dear Cousins May, April, and Jay,

My parents first met Uncle Ben in the Philippines during 1966 and became lifetime friends. My Dad continues to speak fondly about Uncle Ben, for instance, how he already found a job when he arrived in the U.S.

I'll always remember the many Thanksgivings and Christmases we shared between Our families. There were many occasions in my youth that I felt your Father really cared about me.

Louisa and I are grateful that she was able to meet your Father and be around him on a couple of occasions.

From the both of Us, we will miss Uncle Ben.

I have known Ben since about 1980's when he was hired by East Bay Municipal Utility District (EBMUD) as an assistant Electrical Engineer. I was an assistant Mechanical Engineer during the time Ben was at EBMUD. My memories are as follows:
He was well qualified as a power electrical engineer. Although my technical knowledge on the subject of the electrical trade and electrical engineering was very limited, I nonetheless was very impress with his knowledge and with his vast experiences he acquired after he graduating from college.
Typically, like most people we all tend to protect our "rice bowl", our trade secrets, and technical knowledge, to a varying degree, from others who have earned the right to such knowledge. To me, Ben was a rare person that did share his knowledge with me, a mechanical engineer outside of Ben's field of expertise. He would answer my technical questions without misleading me. He help me navigate the NEC (National Electrical Code). Let me digress, like most technical codes, they are written somewhat confusing and full of misleading technical terms to the layperson. In a nutshell very difficult for the uninitiated to find the pertinent information one seeks.
He was always approachable and willing to lend a helping hand when requested. I remember once I performed an electrical audit to prepare a report to the local building inspector to verify that the electrical capacity onsite was capable of supporting the load imposed. Since I was a mechanical engineer I requested Ben to check my work. If my report was not sufficient, I was positive the building official reported me to the State of California to revoke my mechanical engineer's license for practicing electrical engineering. He reviewed my work without hesitation and even help me correct some electrical deficiencies so that the report could be submitted stating that the electrical supply was capable of meeting the electrical demands.
Ben and his family: Ben always work hard to support his family and to ensure that they all received a good education. I think he sacrificed his way of life to put his family first.
I apologize for being long winded. I am bettered for having known him. May he rest in peace.
