November 12, 1936 - April 30, 2020
Yim (Ada) Lim, of San Francisco passed peacefully away on 30 April 2020, in San Francisco, CA. Yim was born on 12 November 1936 in Taishan City, Guangdong province, People's Republic of China, to Shek (mother) and Gim (father) Yee. She was one of three siblings. She completed high school in China. Upon her immigration to the United States via Hong Kong, she completed two years of college and eventually earned a certificate as a cosmotologist. She was introduced in San Francisco to a fellow immigrant, Peter Lim-Lee, from the same native city and province. Although their villages were only 200 yards apart while growing up in China, they had never met. They fell in love, married, bought a home in San Francisco, and would have celebrated their 55th anniversary this year. Yim gave birth to three children whose welfare, education, and raising were always at the forefront of her attention. While the kids were in school, Yim had her own beauty/hair salon in the Sunset district of San Francisco. As a hair stylist, her children were often the subject of her experimentation. As the children grew-up, and she proudly watched each matriculate from college and graduate school, she retired from being a beautician. Her second career was as a hotel owner. With the acquisition of a quaint hotel in Tahoe City,Lake Tahoe, she enjoyed the beauty of Lake Tahoe while learning the business. The family dog, Anka, kept her company. Once the hotel was running smoothly, Yim would occasionally host guests when the managers needed a break. Of course, there was always a place to stay for when the kids wanted to go skiing. As the children got married and started families, Yim spent more time at home in San Francisco and eventually retired from the hotel business in 1996. Family was always first, and she, with Peter, happily helped out with the grandkids. Picking them up from school, feeding them, taking them to their activities, and whatever was needed. Even as everyone grew up, there was always a weekly family dinner night, which everyone attended, where Yim would oversee a wonderful and delicious meal. She was a great cook, and unfortunately, not all her recipes were written down. As an extension of this, there were the family vacations to different locations, with once again, everyone in attendance. Yim loved to travel and enjoyed good food. In retirement, when the kids were busy, she and Peter would often go on cruises together. Always social and active, she enjoyed her weekly majong games and lunch with her friends. She enjoyed trying out new restaurants and then sharing those experiences with her family. Also an avid gardener, when she wasn't busy with her other activities, she enjoyed tending to her garden and potted plants. Many an orchid owes its survival to her care. Yim was a wonderful friend to many, a great mom and grandmother, and a loving wife. She was loved greatly and will be missed very much. Yim is survived by: Peter, (husband ,San Francisco), Hubert (Jenny) Lee, (son ,Emerald Hills), Alanna Lim (daughter, San Francisco), Adoria Lim (daughter, San Francisco), Theodore Lee (grandson, Emerald Hills), Maxwell Lee (grandson, Emerald Hills), Sophia Truong (grand daughter, San Francisco), Wei Chi Poon (sister, San Francisco), Helen (Baldwin) Hoo (niece, San Francisco) , and Albert (Theresa) Poon (nephew, San Francisco). Yim was predeceased by: Gan Yee (brother, 1946), and Anka (family dog, 2002). Services will be held on 12 May 2020 at 12:00 noon. She will rest at Skylawn Memorial Park.
