Toshie Yamada Juson
January 1, 1925 - September 2, 2020
Toshie Yamada Juson, 95, was promoted to be with Jesus on September 2, 2020. Toshie, whose name means ‘New Year’s Baby’ was born in Tokyo on January 1, 1925. During post WW2 reconstruction she met her husband, John James Juson, who was a civilian employee of the American Army & Air Force Motion Picture Services. Toshie was 20 years old when her family home was fire-bombed. When she met John she did not speak English and he did not speak Japanese, but they both went to school to learn. After the war they dated five years before marriage. General Douglas MacArthur had to grant permission for the marriage. They had two daughters, Kathy and Linda. Toshie always knew she was deeply loved by John, who admitted many years later, referring to Toshie, “I found beauty in Japan.” Toshie always felt like she was treated like a princess. She loved being a mother and homemaker. Toshie was a very social, charming and a delightful lady. She was extremely good with numbers and was also a formidable ping pong player - ultimately consistently beating her sons in-law. And she always did it gracefully. Toshie was a gifted artist, and served as treasurer for Ikebana International, the Japanese flower arranging society. She was also a gifted Japanese doll maker. She loved playing poker with her friends. Toshie loved being fashionably dressed, and she particularly enjoyed being a hostess to her many friends. Her husband, John passed away in 1991. She is survived by her daughters Kathy (Joseph) Kolinger, and Linda (Wolfgang) Kaiser. Toshie has five grandchildren: Shane Kaiser, Melissa (Mike) Ansgarius, Michelle (David) Culbertson, Kristina (Andrew) Landies, Alaina (Jonathan) Thompson, ten great-grandchildren, a niece, Ayako Motegi and a nephew, Michael Waterhouse. In 2013 Toshie received Jesus Christ. Our family is confident she now lives with her Savior. Toshie’s greatest qualities were her enduring, selfless love for her husband, children and friends. A charming, greatly loved lady with a big and pure heart, she will be missed greatly. A private family service will be held in her honor. In lieu of flowers any donation to Hospice By The Bay would be appreciated, at this link: https://718.thankyou4caring.org/sslpage.aspx?pid=392
