It's 2025 now and still miss my friend Jerry Mertens. I attended several SF 49ers games with him and his wife Karen and the Mertens family. We went to Honolulu together with Gordy Soltau, another great SF 49ers player for a catholic school fund raising. (RIP Jerry and Gordy). You're the best!
Jerry, Gordy Soltau(RIP) went to Hawaii together to do fund raisings for a Catholic HIgh school. Jerry was one of the nicest person I have ever met. Went to several SF 49ers games with him . Truly miss him . He had a lovely family. Been Years...memories lingers on.
I met Jerry when he was the President of the NFL Alumni - Northern California Chapter when I joined in 1994. He was a kind man who was dedicated to the chapter's mission of Caring for Kids. Jerry, Gordy Soltau, Bruce Bosley, Joe Perry. R.C. Owens, Leo Nomelini
and Henry Ford to name a few of the gridiron greats that helped to build the NFL Alumni

I will miss Jerry for many reasons. Two that brought us close together was I was privileged to be Karen and Jerry's best man at their wedding and Jerry and I were Drake university roommates for several years before Karen stole him away. I have a ton of goofy stories about Jerry in those years but I promised him that I would never reveal them Harry drier
Oh the fun we had bragging about Jerry and his start at St. Catherine's High School in Racine, WI. He will be missed but always remembered. Our condolences to his family.
