Helen Yu-Hwa Yeh

December 28, 1929 - February 9, 2022

Helen Yeh of San Francisco passed away peacefully in her sleep at home on Wednesday, February 9, 2022, 11:30AM. She was 92 years old, had just celebrated her birthday and Chinese New Year surrounded by her family, and lived a full life. She was born December 28, 1929 in Huaining, in the southwest of Anhui province, China and raised in Nanjing. As a young girl, she was adventurous, loved sports, and being outdoors. She was a strong woman, warm and caring, an innovative problem-solver, passionate, and fiercely protective of her family. She earned a BA degree in Economics at Korean National College, and worked as a bookkeeper before she married Henry Yeh on December 20, 1953 and chose to stay home to care for their five children. Together, they shared a 60-year legacy of marriage, love, and laughter. She loved recounting stories about growing up in China. With a smile on her face, she reminisced about good times with her little brother, climbing and sitting on hay bales, picking corn, and fishing in the pond. She treasured those memories and carried them with her after moving to the United States and settling in San Francisco. She was the heart of the family and helped raise her grandchildren. She loved knitting, meditating, watching traditional Chinese opera, walking in Golden Gate Park with her SF Giants ballcap, and was the best at Sudoku and puzzles. Helen was curious and intelligent, and all throughout her life, she never stopped learning. Her grandchildren will always remember watching in awe as she played Nintendo. She learned to play the keyboard piano. She knit, crocheted, and sewed. She loved reading and watching videos on her iPad and adapted quickly to email and texting, so that she could chat with her family. Helen is survived by her son George and his wife Oiping; her daughter Sophia and her husband Russell; her son Grover and his wife Annie; her daughter Sally and her husband Daniel; and her grandchildren: Kimberly and her husband Yousif, Thomas, Iris, Jessica, and Clairity. She is predeceased by her husband Henry and her daughter Susan. A private funeral service will be held on February 19, 2022 at Skylawn Memorial Park, San Mateo, California. Helen touched the lives of so many, and she will be remembered for the endless love she had for her family. She will be dearly missed by all, and she will forever be in our hearts.
