Robert Jerome Alves

Birth Date: February 19, 1938
Death Date: August 5, 2018

With sadness in our hearts, we say goodbye to Robert Alves, Bob or Bobby to his friends and family. He passed away on August 5, 2018 surrounded by loving friends and family.

Bob was born on February 19, 1938 in Los Banos, CA. After bravely battling Wegener’s disease for many years, it was time for him to reunite with his parents Serino and Emily Alves, brothers Donald, John and Frank Alves, and sister Elizabeth (Jim) Burnell and nephew Steven Alves. He is survived by his sisters, Jean (Daniel) DeSa and Yvonne (Donald) Paradiso and nieces and nephews Stephanie Alves, Charmane Trist, Jerome DeSa and Jeanine (Dusty) Young. He is also survived by his extended San Francisco family Andy and Elsie Low and their children Jennifer (Nick) Demuth and Michelle (Greg) Pon and grandchildren Ethan and Malea DeMuth.

After graduating from high school and attending Monterey Peninsula College, Bob served our country in the U.S. Army before settling in San Francisco to begin a successful career as a dental laboratory technician and laboratory owner. He was President of Porcelain Studio, Inc. from 1965 until 2015 when he semi-retired, continuing to work until March 2018. Bob enjoyed long walks by the San Francisco Bay Shoreline, fine dining and vacations to Las Vegas and Disneyland, but mostly enjoyed the company and conversation of close friends and family.

We extend our sincere and heartfelt thanks to the compassionate and caring staff of Mission Hospice & Home Care for the wonderful care they provided to Bob during these last months.

Memorial donations in the name of Robert Alves can be made to:

  1. Godspeed Dear Friend

Written by: Dr. Nelson Artiga and Fran

Above all, Bob was a kind, generous, and noble gentleman! I met, knew and worked with Bob since I started my dental career in 1971. For 43 years Bob was my trusted humble teacher, mentor, and outstanding dental technician and owner of his Porcelain Studio. Bob was a great friend to my wife Fran and a beloved “uncle Bob” to his extended family Andy, Eddie, Cathy, and staff. Thank you for your generous spirit, kindness, great humor, friendship and may God bless you in your eternal journey dear friend! May you rest in eternal peace!

  2. Jean: My condolences to you and your entire loss for Bobs untimely passing. My long connection with Bob and Porcelain Studio provided the chance to get to know him as a friend as well as a client. Within the last couple of weeks I was able to speak with him by telephone, regretfully I was unable to follow up with a visit before we lost him. Also regretfully, I will not be able to attend the Services for him tomorrow, but I will be consoled by knowing a good man like him and and hope you all will be too.
