Wai-Hin Leung
My name is Wai-Hin Leung. Fu Youn Lien was my beloved grandfather. My grandfather was the most courageous, hardworking, respectable, and honorable man you could ever meet. I am not only saying this because he was one time a high officer in the military. I am not only saying this because he raised a successful family of seven daughters. I am not saying this because he was able to migrate to new lands and adapt to new cultures. I am not only saying this because at the age of 95 he attained his US citizenship. I am saying this because I admired him like no one else. HE was my hero. I was very close to my grandpa. He raised me in Taiwan since I was born and helped mold me into the mature and responsible man I am today. There were many memorable moments with my grandpa, but my fondest memory with him was when he taught me to ride my first bicycle. I remembered how he held onto the seat of my bike as I was wobbling on two wheels and then he just gave me a gentle push and let me pedal away. However ten seconds later, I lost control and fell of my bike. When I fell he didn?t come after me, but instead he let me get up myself and then away I rode by myself. I rode down the street and turned around and he smiled at me. Just from this experience, you could tell a lot about who my grandpa was as a person. He was a man who guided the people he loved during the important times of their lives. He held your hands for the beginning moments but never through its entirety. He gave you just enough support to make sure you succeeded. And most importantly he did not always rush to your side when you fell, but he believed in you and let you learn from your own life mishaps. And when you succeeded which he knew you would, he would stand there proud of you and ready to congratulate you. Three days ago when I got married and fifteen days ago when I graduated from medical school, he wasn?t able to be there to congratulate me. These were moments that he looked forward to sharing with me. Although he wasn?t able to attend, I felt his presence with me on those important days of my life. I know he would?ve been proud. I knew he would?ve given me the firmest handshake and the biggest hug possible. My grandpa was and will always be my biggest supporter. My grandpa is now in a better place with the Lord and happily enjoying his place in Heaven. I want to let you know Grandpa that I miss you. Don?t worry about Po Po we will take good care of her. Grandpa, I love you, always and forever.
