Earlier today, I couldn’t find the words to speak, but I wanted to share some memories about the Raquel that I knew, as well as a glimpse of her 9 years at Gap. I joined the same team as Rocky in 2007 and sat across an aisle or shared a cube wall with her for 4 years on “Ladies’ Lane” in San Bruno. She was at times my co-worker and my manager, but above and beyond that, she was a good friend. We first bonded over a love of shopping, at the last sample sale held at 901 Cherry. Instead of a quick browse while we were supposed to be working, we ended up shopping for 3 hours and scored some great deals. That was our ice breaker and we became fast friends after that. Over the next few years, while she taught me everything from construction processes to project management, we also shared countless lunches at the office (literally, we shared french onion dip and rice noodles) and talked and laughed about everything under the sun (our childhood, Chinese culture, guys, TV shows, stationery, Target limited collections). Rocky was a team player who always gave 110% to her work. She was a shining star at Gap, and though her work achievements were many, her real contribution to the team was her spirit. She was generous, thoughtful, and enjoyed making other people feel special. On our team, she was the “spirit squad” captain, constantly eager to decorate the office for holidays and organize surprise events to celebrate birthdays or work anniversaries. Another thing she loved to share at work was her vast collection of notebooks, pens, and cool office stationery (so many Gappers now still use one of her gifts). She was a fun-loving and sweet soul and will be sorely missed. To say one last goodbye to Raquel, I wanted to share this song with her. Wicked the Musical was a show that we both loved a lot, and for months, we constantly played the soundtrack at work. Hopefully she is enjoying it now. Dear Rocky, aka BK (Banker Kat/Boss Kat), “Because I knew you, I have been changed for good.” I will always think of you and miss you every time I see Hello Kitty, eat at Delica/Yank Sing, shop at Target, or listen to Wicked. Love and hugs, Kalista, aka IPKK
